Where the percentage comes from
Return to player is not measured in a casino. It is calculated in the studio from the paytable, the symbol distribution on each reel and every branch of the bonus round. The studio knows each winning combination and its probability; the weighted sum of those wins, divided by the stake, produces the published figure.
The scale of that calculation is what everyone forgets. RTP describes behaviour across tens of millions of spins, a volume nobody reaches in a lifetime of play. It is a property of the game, not a forecast for the evening.
On this site the value shown on a game page is the one the studio published. When there is none, the field stays empty and says so, because an estimate would quietly corrupt every comparison built on top of it.
The top of the table
NetEnt's Blood Suckers, released in November 2013, is stated at 98%. That is the ceiling of this gothic catalogue and a figure with no equivalent among recent releases. Blood Hunters by Leander Games follows at 97.99%, and Red Tiger's Blood Suckers Megaways at 97.66%.
Those three share more than a percentage. Two of them are marked low volatility, and Blood Suckers caps out at 1,014 times the stake. A high return is paid for somewhere else, almost always with a modest ceiling or reduced variance.
A leading RTP therefore promises no big nights. It promises slower erosion of a balance, which is a different quality and often a more useful one in demo play.
The bottom of the table
At the other end, Blood Moon Riches by Triple Cherry is published at 90.19%, roughly eight points below the catalogue average. And since its maximum win stops at 600 times the stake, there is no hidden compensation in the form of a spectacular ceiling.
Blood by Apollo Games states 92% and Vampire Bride by SYNOT 93%; the first carries a progressive jackpot, which moves part of the return into a pot that is rarely hit. On machines like that, the base percentage tells only half the story.
The working rule: below 94% there should be an identifiable mechanical reason on the fact sheet. If there is none, the game is simply expensive.
Half a point cannot be felt
Pragmatic Play's Bloody Dawn sits at 96.5%, Gamebeat's Bloody Waltz at 96.3%. Over a hundred spins at the same stake, two tenths of a point amounts to a fraction of one bet. No session makes that visible.
What is visible is that both are marked high volatility and both run on cascades, yet one caps at 5,000 times the stake and the other at 10,000. That difference shapes how the games feel far more than the RTP does.
Picking between two titles on a tenth of a point is like sorting books by the weight of their paper.
"RTP range" means the printed figure may not be the one running
A sizeable part of this catalogue carries the "RTP range" tag in its feature list: Bloody Murder by Red Tiger, Book of Vampires by Tom Horn Gaming, Blood Rage by 1x2gaming, among others. The tag means the studio ships the same mechanic in several return versions.
The operator decides which version is installed. The catalogue value is the one the studio leads with, not necessarily the one spinning in front of you.
The useful habit is a single click: open the information screen of the running game. The configured rate is written there, and only that one applies to your session.
The Wazdan case
Wazdan's Dracula's Castle is published at 96.56%, but its volatility is listed as ADJUSTED rather than low, medium or high. The studio lets the player set the variance level from the machine's own settings.
The stated RTP stays the same whatever the setting: what changes is how wins are distributed, not their theoretical sum. Two people can play the same machine and watch completely different balance curves.
It is the clearest illustration of this guide's whole point. The percentage says how much comes back; it never says when, or in what portions.
